The Issue

I am Lucas Hendrina, and I am deeply concerned about the discriminatory practices that students from private tertiary institutions face when it comes to accessing educational subsidies. Like many others, I have personally experienced the unfair cap placed on subsidies for students attending private educational institutions. This cap not only limits our educational opportunities but also undermines our efforts to receive a quality education.

In my pursuit of higher education, I've encountered multiple barriers that seem unjust and favor students in state-funded institutions. It is disheartening to realize that despite paying the same taxes which fund these subsidies, private tertiary students are relegated to a lower tier when it comes to financial assistance. We face the same challenges and costs associated with higher education, yet we receive less support, which only widens the gap between public and private tertiary education.

Statistics show that in regions where this discrimination is prevalent, a significant percentage of students opt for private institutions due to factors like location, specialized programs, or personal preference. However, despite their growing numbers, these students are systematically disadvantaged by the subsidy cap. This practice not only affects students today but also has long-term implications for their professional development and contributions to society.

The crux of the issue lies in the arbitrary decision-making process that diminishes the value of degrees from private institutions by financially handicapping their students. As someone who seeks to make the most of my educational opportunities, I find it particularly frustrating and unfair that the financial ceiling imposed on students like me continues to go unaddressed.

We call upon the educational authorities and governmental bodies to acknowledge and rectify this inequity. By removing or significantly adjusting the subsidized cap for private tertiary students, we can ensure a more equitable distribution of educational support. This change is not only just but necessary to foster a more inclusive and diverse educational landscape.

I urge you to support our petition and help bring about a critical change in educational policy. Your signature can make a difference in creating a fair and balanced system for all students, regardless of the type of institution they attend. Join me in advocating for equitable educational subsidies by signing this petition today.
