BBC coverage today, 4000 signatures, new local groups - its all going on!

It’s been a big couple of days for the #SaveOurTrains campaign. On Monday night or Tuesday, the petition passed 4,000 signatures, and we got this story in the Northants Telegraph. In turn this has led to coverage on BBC East TV and BBC 3counties Radio today. Leaflets are being handed out on trains, and at Wellingborough, Bedford and now Luton stations. An all-new Wellingborough Rail User group is being set up – see www.facebook.com/groups/WellingboroughRailUsers/ 130 members already. It had its first meeting on Tuesday evening. In Bedford a similar facebook group “Bedford Rail Campaigners” is getting going (36 members so far) www.facebook.com/groups/1128431910591360/ If you are in/near Luton, there is “Save Luton IC Trains” @SaveLutonTrains on twitter. Contacts further north are being strengthened, too. Across the area as a whole, there’s the East Midlands Passengers group www.facebook.com/groups/EastMidlandsPassengers, with 230 members Big banner-size posters have gone up near Bedford and Wellingborough stations, and we have other BIG posters if people can offer somewhere suitable to put them (the smallest of these are about 2 foot wide and 3 foot tall). Can someone offer to print a couple of hundred, please, or pay towards them? Similarly more leaflets would be good. Can someone help, please? For the future, on 9th Sept we will be part of the “Plug in the Midland Mainline” protest event, travelling up the mainline StPancras-Bedford-Kettering-Market Harborough-Leicester-Derby-Chesterfield-Sheffield. www.facebook.com/events/172485223296311/ please do try to join the train for a leg or two, or turn up to one of the stops. On Wed 13th Sept there will be the Government-run “consultation event” in Kettering. Meet 1pm at Kettering station, so we process to the “consultation event” together. Keep the evening of Thu 21st Sept free for a public meeting in Bedford. If you are able/willing to help organise any small element to do with the campaign, there will be an organisational meeting Friday 8th Sept 1pm at the “Parcel Yard” (right next to midland station), Leicester.
