Transportation Improvements in Stafford County took a giant step forward on Tuesday night when the Stafford Board of Supervisors approved Both the Transportation Master Plan and Higher Transportation Impact Fees on Developers.

The exact location of the river crossing will be determined in January between the regional elected officials at FAMPO. I will report more on the river crossing in future posts.

My preference for river crossing ranking is B-2 followed by B-1, C, A and D. Please contact me with questions. I will send the survey link and more information in a future update.

The master plan also includes a Bicycle, Sidewalk and Trail plan.

The 20-year master plan is short over a billion dollars in funding. Elected officials need to figure out how to fund it. The new Transportation Impact Fees helps close the gap and is estimated to generate between $6 M and $12 M annually in revenue for Transportation.

Most State or Federal Transportation grants require 10% to 20% local funding, so every $20 M in revenue from the impact fees will leverage at least $80 M in grants for a total of $100 M in funding for transportation projects. That funding will expedite the construction of County Wide Transportation Improvements in Stafford.

The Board of Supervisors needs to be thanked for moving these Transportation and Trail initiatives forward. It's very difficult to stand up to special interest groups to do what's best for all citizens.

Thank you, Stafford Supervisors for a job well done!

Sincerely,
Joe Brito
