Stop the Animal Cruelty at the Benoni Bunny Park

Stop the Animal Cruelty at the Benoni Bunny Park
The Issue
Something very terrible is happening at the Bunny Park in Benoni. I have recently been made aware of the neglect and abuse of the animals there. They are starving, not attended to medically and most of them are very ill. They have mange and foot rot. If you go and visit them, they fight each other to get to you, because they are so hungry. The photos on the Bunny Park Volunteer Group's facebook page speak for themselves (https://www.facebook.com/Bunny-Park-Volunteer-Group-SA-1457540131217350/timeline/). Since being made aware of the problem I have heard about mismanagement of funds; animals only being fed three times a week; a lack of understanding of livestock and how they should be treated and handled; dead or dying calves, sheep, bunnies and birds; paralysed bunnies that have not been treated. Please add your name to this petition, asking that the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality terminate the contract of the current caretaker and replace him with someone who is more suitable and trustworthy for the effective management of the establishment. We also ask that the SPCA continue to do regular, thorough inspections, not limited to visual inspections so that disease and illness can be caught and handled more timeously and effectively. We ask that the SPCA, Kitty and Puppy Haven and BAT (Ban Animal Trading) continue to provide the volunteers with the mandate that allows them into the enclosures to check on and care for the animals, removing them from the park if necessary in order to attend to them medically. Someone who understands livestock and their specific needs must be on site more regularly so that current conditions are improved for all animals living there, including pregnant sheep and cows and their calves. If these steps are not put in place, we call for the Benoni Bunny Park to be shut down. For more info see:
