Quite a week on Berwick St. What started with a story in the West End Extra, evolved into a piece in the Evening Standard, metamorphosed into a BBC Radio Live and then exploded across TV screens on BBC1 News. We touched a nerve but still have work to do.
5000 signatures and a meeting with Mark Field MP (London & Westminster) later, It appears all independent businesses are under threat - making way for plundering developers chasing pension fund investment and international capital, and councils willing to exchange cultural heritage and community for a dull corporate façade.
WE have a meeting with the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) tomorrow and, at last, a meeting with Westminster in two weeks - this would not be happening without this campaign and we need to keep the pressure on.
If each one of us ask one friend, colleague, business, co-worker or relative to sign the Keep Berwick St Market Independent petition – we’ll very simply double our numbers and chances of success @BerW1ckStMarket
Who do you know may not have heard that Berwick Street Market is under threat?
