This petition is to support the retention of a multiple generation town icon; the peacocks, pheasants and other gamefowl in the Waring gardens, Deniliquin.

This petition has been designed to determine whether the benefits of keeping the peacock enclosure in the Waring Gardens greatly outweigh the financial aspect. It is a chance for those who support keeping the aviary to have their say on the matter.

Visitors to the town of Deniliquin have been known to stop in with the sole purpose of seeing the peacock enclosure, and as a result have put money into the local economy at cafes and have no doubt established connections with other local businesses, including clothing and gift retailers, newsagent, hair salons, shoe shop and countless others.

The issue of training staff to care for the birds can be easily remedied, and there would be many keen volunteers and no doubt people that would be willing to complete the required certifications and pre requisites in order to be ready to assist if required.

The peacock enclosure in the Waring Gardens holds great sentimental value to the town of Deniliquin and it's people, and despite the potential financial outlay required to keep it around it is something we locals hope to enjoy for generations to come.

As rate payers, the public community should have a say in order for this proposal/issue/matter to be a healthy, legitimate, fair and valid one.
