Greetings, Damon Barone, Alief ISD parent, taxpayer, and alumnus.
During the October 04, 2022 Special Called Meeting for the Superintendent Search, when responding to my concerns that meetings are being held too early for our community, and district employees to be actively involved in the process of selecting the next leader of this district, you all justified your willful decisions to host these meetings when it is convenient for the school board and the search firm by saying that you all don’t want to be here late upholding the responsibilities of your school board duties.
In fact, you all routinely talk about it being late for you during school board meetings and wanting to expedite the meetings, or cut discussions short.
Why do you all continue to run for the school board if you do not have the time to do the work that is required nor do you have the intent to serve your full terms?
While actively sitting on this board, President Ann Williams you have campaigned to be a trustee for the Houston Community College, you also recently campaigned for the Precinct 4 Harris County Commissioner seat.
Secretary Lily Truong you are currently running for the November 08, 2022 Texas State Representative position while sitting on this school board, and this is your second time running for that position while on this school board.
Immediate past Trustee John Nguyen ran for the Houston City Council F position while serving on this school board.
Based upon this boards May 31, 2022 response to my May 10, 2022 open records request, you all selected Janet Spurlock over Master Trustee Nigh Ho to fill Harvey Tong’s vacated seat without asking a single interview question, had no matrix, and used no scoring rubric; so, imagine the state our district would have been in had you all individually or collectively won your non Alief ISD elections.
The district and this board have expressed extreme concerns of the impact that charter schools have had and continue to have in our district. Yet everyone acts like you all are oblivious to the fact that Trustee Pastor Gregg Patrick is, and has been running his own charter school a 1/2 a mile from Petrosky Elementary, 1 mile from the new Jefferson Early Learning Center, and 4 miles away from his seat at the board room.
If you all do not want to stay late to do your required duties, you allege that you basically played rock, paper, scissors on May 10, 2022 when you selected Janet Spurlock over Master Trustee Nigh Ho, everyone gets to run for other political seats while sitting on this board, and can run competing charter schools against the district, how is our community supposed to have faith in your leadership, and your selection of our next superintendent, because HD Chambers left in the middle of the school year?
