We are still waiting on the HOW
Legally schools have to be open and available for any and all who desire to go/desire to go back to campuses. That’s the reason why Alief ISD can only be 100% online for the first three weeks of this academic school year, of which the alief superintendent decided to open schools a week early, and end a week later, NOT the govonor. Alief ISD is just trying to continue figuring out HOW they are going to reopen. Unless the governor issues a state of emergency, which allows schools to be closed/operate online until the state of emergency is over with, schools have to be open for regular business. The problem is that Alief is not providing to students, parents, staff, or community members the HOW of how they intended to open back up safely and they (Superintendent Henry David Chambers Jr) keeps trying to deflect by saying the district is waiting to see what the governor is going to do. The governor has already stated what he is going to do a long time ago. He IS NOT issuing a state of emerge, he IS NOT going to shut the state down again. He has been firm on that; thus alief is behind the eight ball on planning or discussing HOW they are going to open schools back up safely. We all know the what (schools will reopen, alief wants schools to be safe when they reopen, blah, blah, blah), but what are Aliefs plans to do so safely, HOW do they plan on keeping everyone safe? That is where the districts silence and miscommunication to the public from the district begins. That silence builds up lack of support. How are we expected to fill out a survey asking if we want to send our kids and family back to schools and we don’t know HOW the district plans on keeping them safe? That doesn’t make sense. Tell us HOW the district plans on doing so then we can say ok that sounds like a good plan, I’m comfortable with your plans to reopen, so much so that I will send my kids back to school with those measures you outlined. Imagine someone telling you that they are going to ask you a question but you have to answer YES or NO to the question before they tell you what the question is or what the question will be about. Then they hold YOU accountable for the answer you gave before you knew the question. That doesn’t make sense at all in the real world so it shouldn’t make sense in the world of education; especially coming from a superintendent that we pay $400,000 a year to run our Alief School district. We deserve $400,000 worth of common sense and two way communication, not $400,000 worth of YouTube videos with the comments disabled so we can’t respond to the posted videos. I’ll close with this. How did you/the community hear about the tuberculosis out break in Alief ISD? You/most probably didn’t. That put all 46,000 students, all district staff, and our community at risk. But the district chose to keep the tuberculosis quite as not to mess up the image of Aliefs leadership. I choose the safety of my kids and family, and your family over the image of the district any day, hands down.
