If you are an elementary teacher in Alief ISD, for the 2018-2019 school year, student enrollment is decreasing by 417 students next year. That is over a 700 student decrease in the past 3-4 years in JUST elementary alone. 300 in a three year span (2015-2018) and a whopping 400 students in just this year alone (2017-2018) at the elementary level. 17 elementary teachers are expected to lose their jobs for the 2018-2019 school year. At the intermediate school level the district is looking to hire 2 teacher, at the middle school level the district is looking to hire 2 teachers, and at the high school level the district is looking to hire 2 teachers to account for projected enrollment. No mention of adjustments to administrative staff on any level.
Elementary School enrollment
2017- 2018; 20,945 current student enrollment
2018-2019; 20,528 projected student enrollment
Decrease of 417 students, termination of 17 teachers.
Intermediate School enrollment
2017- 2018; 6,108 current student enrollment
2018-2019; 6,305 projected student enrollment
Increase of 197 students, hiring of 2 teachers.
Middle School enrollment
2017- 2018; 6,481 current student enrollment
2018-2019; 6,542 projected student enrollment
Increase of 61 students, hiring of 2 teachers.
High School enrollment
2017- 2018; 13,183 current student enrollment
2018-2019; 13,303 projected student enrollment
Increase of 120 students, hiring of 2 teachers.

No students = No need for teachers
Increased students = More teachers needed
