Edo of Japan, ditch Plastic Straws and adopt a Compostable Alternative

Over 500 million plastic drinking straws are thrown away in the US each day.
This is an enormous problem.
If you were to line up those 500 million straws end-to-end, they would circle the earth 2.5 times. That's just the amount of straws thrown out in one day, by one country.
Plastic drinking straws are often not recyclable due to their size. As a result, billions of them end up in landfills and oceans each year.
The majority of plastic straws used are made from a petroleum based plastic called polypropylene. Making 1000 kg of polypropylene releases 3530 kg of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.
This petition was created after another one I created to Starbucks received 150K signatures. Shortly after Starbucks announced that they'd be eliminating plastic straws from all locations.
I love eating at Edo. It is one of my favourite Canadian fast-food places. Unfortunately, I won't be able to eat there any longer if they continue to use environmentally unfriendly materials for straws and other items.
