Preserve, Manage, and Protect California's Forests from Wildfires and Desertification
The Issue
Deforestation affects people and animals on a global stage, but no region on Earth has seen the various forms that it has taken in California. It has been affected by the byproducts of global warming, namely surges in heat, forest fires, decreased water supply, and deforestation and desertification. It was once one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, but is now struggling with the encroachment of desertification and loss of biomass. Furthermore, infrastructure and housing have been destroyed by such fires, and billions of dollars have been lost.
The best policy option would be to make an investment of $30 billion fighting deforestation and forest and greenery degradation, which could provide a return of $2.5 trillion in new products and services. It is the Californian government’s priority to protect its natural biodiversity, and the best way for them to preserve their state’s natural beauty is to improve forest management by increasing its total forest area, all the while managing its originally highly dense forests.
I wholeheartedly care about the welfare of California's forests as the state and its natural beauty, biodiversity, and flora and fauna have a meaningful place in my concern about the environment.
