With your support, and international coverage of this incident, the Alberta Minister of Education was willing to meet with Una today.
Today’s meeting with the Minister of Education went very well. The Minister has requested a detailed report from Edmonton Catholic Schools, and will look into doing a larger review of durags in our schools. It is a relief to finally have someone in power listen to the whole story.
However, the Minister also stressed the importance of school board autonomy and will not intervene directly to force an apology from the Edmonton Catholic School District. Our demands have not yet been met but we have made progress thanks to each one of you who has signed, shared and rallied with us. Here are ways you can continue to help:
- Sign and share the petition at http://chng.it/NbNFPbT4 If we show the school board that there is large public support, they will be more likely to apologize.
- Come to our rally on November 26 in front of the Edmonton Catholic Schools building. They are having a trustee meeting at 2:30pm, and this is our chance to show those in power what they need to do.
