Hello Fellow Residents, Commuters and Community members
Now that the Liverpool Council Elections have concluded, the results have been formally declared and the new Council has been officially sworn in, it's back to the business at hand which is campaigning for the extension of the South West rail line from Leppington Station to the new Western Sydney Airport so that the residents of Liverpool (and MacArthur, Southern Highlands and the Illawarra) can have direct rail access rather than having to travel around the world, so to speak, to use the metro line via St Mary's Station.
To that end I have presented another paper petition of approximately 1000 signatures to Nathan Hagarty MP for Leppington and asked him to lodge same in the NSW Parliament House at the next sitting which will be next week.
Following the procedure for paper petitions the Minister for Transport will then reply to the petition request 28 days after it has been lodged and accepted in Parliament.
In addition I will also be putting together a presentation for the New Liverpool City Council as there are 5 new Councillors that have been elected.
The first meeting of Liverpool City Council is due to be held on the 16th of October 2024 and I am aware that the new Councillors will be finding their feet so I plan to address Liverpool City Council at the November 2024.
Hopefully now that the Liberal Party voting block of six no longer exists and the Mayor of Liverpool no longer has Dictatoral control over Liverpool City Council this option will be considered and supported rather than just the push for a metro line from Bankstown to Liverpool which has a number of challenges associated with it including the proposed corridor and aquisition of the land required, the physical issues regarding the Georges River and the costs.
The extension of the South West rail line from Leppington Station to the new Western Sydney Airport already has the rail corridor in place with some of the land already acquired.
A direct rail service could be established to the CBD much more easily and much more quickly and much more cost effectively than a metro line from Bankstown to Liverpool.
I will keep you updated of any developments as they come to hand.
