In Sri Lanka on April 21st Easter Sunday a state of emergency has been declared. Six simultaneous bombings have taken place in 3 churches( St Anthony's Shrine, Zion church and St.Sebastians) and 3 hotels( Cinnamon Grand, Shangri-La and Kingsbury). The bombings that took place at the churches were targeted towards people congregated for Easter Sunday. The hotel bombings have targeted tourists and foreigners on travels.

Another two bombs went out later during the day. The seventh bombing targeted a lodge near the Dehiwala Zoo while the eighth one took place at a locals home.

The reported casualties are currently 321 deaths and 500+ injured.

The students who have been tirelessly preparing for their examinations this May have been taken by surprise and the last couple of days have been full of turmoil. The focus and concentration on studies have been replaced with fear and uncertainty as to what will happen to their home. It has become increasingly difficult to continue studying as the situation seems to be escalating as the days go by. Schools have been shut down to ensure safety of the students which are also affecting revision and study plans.Transport to and from examination centers during exam time has also become a cause for concern in light of government curfews.

Due to these factors causing students distress throughout the nation, we kindly request the Edexcel committee to Delay/Postpone the GCSE OL, & IAL AL exams that will be taking place in the Country.

Failing this, we request that the grade boundaries for the papers sat in our country be given a lower grade boundary.

Thank You.
