Companion Pets are NOT Property!

Companion Pets are NOT Property!

The Issue

For the purpose of this petition, Companion pets are the dogs and cats that people share their homes and lives with.
Problem:
At some point in history, Companion Pets were categorized as Property and although the majority of pet owners today, consider their Pets a part of the family, this antiquated law still remains.
As Property, our Companion Pet are equivalent to a kitchen table or chairs worth only Fair Market Value.
This unconscionable reality allows incompetent licensed professional veterinarians to kill or injury our Companion Pets with NO legal recourse or personal accountability.
Although Companion Pets have gained rights and protection in other areas of the law, such as an interest in divorce custody hearings and emergency evacuations, they still lack standing in the legal system for their own protection.
Proposed Resolution:
Develop a guardianship system so Pet Owners can protect Companion Pets’ best interest.
THIS ANTIQUATED LAW NEEDS TO CHANGE.

COMPANION PETS ARE NOT PROPERTY!

Please sign below to let Indiana State Representative Ed Soliday realize that it’s
TIME for a Change!
