Stop Newby Island Landfill Expansion--garbage can't be put above people!
Petition to Create Ordinance: Urban Landfill Must Have 1 Mile Buffer Zone
Jennifer Strohfus
milpitas, CA, United States
Jun 4, 2016 —
http://www.weidb.com/p48761〈=en Hi Folks in Silicon Valley, The city of Milpitas sued SJ LEA but Milpitas lost the case. One of reasons was Milpitas dumps its garbage in Newby Landfill. The contract between Newby Landfill (Republic Services) and the city of Milpitas will expire in 2017. Therefore, a garbage disposal contract bidding process was launched last year. The result was there were only two companies participating in the bidding for disposal: Waste Management and Waste Green. WM's bidding price was $42 and WG's was $60. Both companies claimed they had no records of confirmed odor complaints. Therefore, Milpitas chose WM. RS, the current disposal contractor with Milpitas, initiated a Referendum that is trying to overturn the city council's decision and put the issue on the Nov ballot. WM's landfill is located in Almaden Valley. Residents in Alamden don't like the Milpitas garbage disposal contract and I totally understand. To solve the problem and restore clean air for the whole south bay residents, I proposed a petition that needs your support to make SJ government to do the right thing. Only a big number of petition supporters can push SJ to create an ordinance to stop favoring urban landfills. Please sign the petition and share the link with your friends, neighbors, and any one you know. Appreciate your support! http://www.weidb.com/p48761〈=en
