1 may 2016 — ATTENTION: May 25th Meeting Has been postponed to Aug 24th! Milpitas, South Fremont, and North San Jose Residents, Please attend the May 3rd Milpitas Council Meeting and May 6th Newby Settlement Fairness Hearing 1. May 3rd Milpitas Council Meeting : The garbage disposal and collection contract between Milpitas and the Republic Services (Newby Landfill ) will expire in 2017. Thru a long process of RFP, the lowest bid that was $42.78 per ton from Waste Management for disposal contract has been selected. Republic Services didn't participate in the bidding. After the city decision was made, Republic Services initiated a referendum in order to overturn Milpitas city's decision. On April 14th they collected enough signatures and it most likely will be on the November ballot for Milpitas voters to decide. We just heard that hundreds of Almaden residents will come to this coming Tuesday May 3rd Milpitas council meeting to protest Milpitas city’s decision! Please attend the May 3rd Milpitas city council meeting @ council chambers to listen and understand Almaden residents’ stance. Please do not argue with them! No one wants to smell garbage odor after all! No one wants a landfill in his/her backyard! Milpitas and Almaden residents are in the same boat NOW! 2. On May 6th @ 9am, there will be a Fairness Hearing @ superior court, 191 N 1st St., San Jose. Please attend the very important Newby Class Action Settlement Fairness Hearing!
