RESPONSE from Echo Brickell: "Thank you for your comments and concern regarding the proposed shark tank in the Echo Brickell lobby. First, we want to explain how the concept for the shark tank came to be. As the State of Florida prohibits tank-raised sharks from being released into the wild, sharks that outgrow their owner’s home aquariums are unfortunately destroyed. Our plan was to create a 12,000 gallon refuge for these sharks to provide them a second chance in a larger habitat. Furthermore, were any of the sharks to outgrow the tank, they would have been relocated to a larger environment. Nevertheless, we are sensitive to the sentiments and concerns expressed by the public over the past week. We strive to be a progressive company and respect the environment and its inhabitants. Accordingly, we are changing direction and examining alternative marine life that would be a more appropriate fit for our tank and more importantly we welcome suggestions from the public to help us make that determination.
