On 12 July, I am hosting a government roundtable: “Eating disorders: finding solutions to a national crisis”
People with eating disorders are being turned away from treatment because they aren't thin enough, and then when they do come back for treatment, they are told they are too sick and they can't be helped. The situation right now is awful and we must keep the momentum up following our March because no one should be dying of an eating disorder in 2023.
We have already had a number of MPs say they will come to the roundtable but we need your help to get more. Please take a moment today to write to your local MP and also to the Secretary of State asking them to come! There is a draft invite below!
Thanks so much for all your support!
Draft letter to your local MP and Secretary of State (please feel free to personalise):
Dear X
I am writing to you to ask if you will support Hope Virgo’s eating disorder roundtable taking place in Parliament on 12 July.
Eating disorders are serious biological and socially caused mental illnesses but, globally, the UK is falling behind other countries in tackling eating disorders with a lack of funding, high rates of stigma, and a huge lack of understanding and urgency to tackle these deadly illnesses. Those suffering are often hidden in plain sight amongst all ages, genders races, ethnicities, body shapes and weights, sexual orientations, and every socio-economic status, affecting every aspect of society.
No one should be condemned to life with an eating disorder, nor should anyone be dying of an eating disorder in 2023. Some good treatments exist but rationing of care and a post-code lottery prevents the majority of sufferers from accessing them.
As a member of your constituency I urge you to go and show your support. For more info please email hopevirgo@hotmail.com
