Over the last few weeks we have seen continual turmoil across politics. As well as this I have heard more and more stories of people with eating disorders not getting the support they need; it is heartbreaking and something needs to change.

I have continued to communicate with MPs, and have a number of meetings coming up but there is still not enough action being taken! Over the next few weeks I will also be able to update you on the exciting work being done locally with the hospital that turned me away!

We need to make sure that people with eating disorders are getting the support they need and that #DumpTheScales remains on the political agenda. We made a huge amount of progress before the change in government and we cannot afford to let anything slow this down.

This is where I need your help!

Ahead of World Mental Health Day (10 October) I have 2 things that I would love you to do:

1.     Tweet your local MP and ask them support the campaign (this will take max 30 seconds): This #WMHD I’m supporting @HopeVirgo’s campaign to #Dumpthescales because eating disorders are not about weight – please “@INSERTMP” do sign too https://www.change.org/p/eating-disorders-are-not-just-about-weight-dumpthescales

2.     Copy and paste the below letter and send to your MP - feel free to personalise it (this will take max 3 minutes)

Thank you so much for all your support! Together we can end this complete injustice and make sure everyone with an eating disorder can get the support they need!

Dear *Insert MP Name*,

Ahead of World Mental Health Day, 10 October, I'm writing to you to ask you to get behind Hope Virgo’s campaign to #DumpTheScales.

I am asking you to sign because people with eating disorders are currently facing an injustice when it comes to treatment. Despite the discussions that Hope has had with Minsters in the past there is still not enough action being taken.

Thousands of people with eating disorders are being turned away from treatment and support every day because their BMI is not underweight enough. The NICE Guidelines for access to treatment are correct but they are not being implemented in the right way. There is a lack of understanding around eating disorders and diagnosis.

This issue is costing lives, heartbreak, anguish for people with eating disorders and their families, and ultimately costing the NHS more due to increased need when someone hits crisis. The solution to tackle this is simple and achievable.

With 1.25 million people living with eating disorders in the UK it is vital that we act now and make this change. Not only will this save lives, but through the correct treatment and preventing people hitting crisis it will also save the NHS money and resources.

There are 3 things that I am asking you to do this World Mental Health Day for those with eating disorders;
1.    Tweet your support on the 10 October: This #WMHD I’m supporting @HopeVirgo’s campaign to #Dumpthescales because eating disorders are not about weight – please do sign too https://www.change.org/p/eating-disorders-are-not-just-about-weight-dumpthescales
2.     Meet with Hope Virgo to discuss how you can support this campaign further
3.     Raise this with the Minister as something that needs to be tackled at the utmost urgency before more people lose their lives to eating disorders.

Best wishes
