Today I had two meetings at Parliament. The first with the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC); I got called forward to give evidence on a recent PHSO report looking in to eating disorder treatment, diagnosis and after care. It was good to meet and discuss the report and next steps. The report is out next week so please do keep an eye on it!
The second one was more focussed on #DumpTheScales. Paula Sherriff, MP for Dewsbury organised a roundtable with Jackie Doyle Price, The Minister for Mental Health, one of her constituents (the parents of a 19-year-old currently living with anorexia), Tim Kendall, NHS England's National Clinical Director for Mental Health and representatives from the NHS and The Department of Health.
The conversations we had were brilliant, so much dedication to eating disorders and a real realisation that we need to do more to tackle the complete injustice that so many face. The biggest frustration for me (which the MPs in attendance agreed with) was the lack of support and need to change in the short term. We discussed these amazing plans for 5 – 10 years but that doesn’t tackle the issues now.
We need to keep working to make change in the here and now before even more people lose their lives to eating disorders. Please do keep sharing the petition far and wide because if shout about this enough no one will be able to ignore it!
Thank you for your ongoing support! Together we can change this!
