The Cathedral Quarter in Belfast is the city's beating cultural heart. An area steeped in history, with cobbled alleys and busy pubs. On one night a year, Culture Night, Hill Street is closed off to motor traffic. The streets comes alive with people. But on any other night the street is a shortcut for drivers.
Hill Street doesn't have to remain a traffic sewer. It can be different. It can be a space to sit and watch the world go by, eat and drink, watch street theatre, buy something from a food truck or a market stall.
We call on the Eastern Division of the Department for Infrastructure to close off Hill Street for vehicle traffic between its junction with Talbot Street and Waring Street.
Access for delivery vehicles can be maintained between 6am and 11am. Alternative drop off and pick up points for taxis are close by on Bridge Street, Donegall Street and Waring Street.
