The Revised TJ Hughes scheme is now on the Eastbourne Borough Council Planning Portal and we encourage you to support the developers Capreon and show the Council the value of the new scheme by commenting here:
You can see how the revised scheme compares to the original building when it was operating as Dale & Kerley's Department Store in the picture. The roof height has been sensitively extended to allow for further space which will help compensate for the additional cost of retaining the beautiful 1920s façade by Eastbourne Architect P.D. Stonham. The Eastbourne Society wholeheartedly supports the new scheme and we look forward to continuing to work with Capreon to support their application.
In addition we'd like to thank all of you for your continued support throughout this process which has contributed to this landmark outcome for Eastbourne. Together with the backing of the C20 Society and SAVE Britain's Heritage, this positive civic action has successfully made a difference by saving a cherished store frontage that is a huge part of the unique character and beauty of the Town Centre and Seafront Conservation Area.
