Protecting pets in rural areas.

Protecting pets in rural areas.
The Issue
Today, we found one of my kittens dead with a broken pelvis lying on our driveway. She had been hit by a car and was on her way back to the house to seek us for help but unfortunately did not make it. Her collar was in the middle of the road. We concluded she was hit by a car. Over the course of a year, around five cats have been hit by cars and all died almost immediately. I’ve been living here, in Wadhurst, for around five years now and we tend to see a lot of drivers almost speeding up the country roads and in the main road, around a five minute walk from my road. I think people speed around here because the roads are quieter. I think cats are also unable to hear cat brands like Tesla’s, and in this area where people are a bit more rich, there are a few I’ve seen passing through. I feel like we should have more control in rural areas, to stop this kind of thing from happening. Because any other pet or animal could be hit and causes a lot of distress to families. These cats really helped me too. They were a promise to me so that I could get out of hospital and when I did, we brought them home. They help tremendously with my mental health and every time I felt depressed and felt like it was all too much, I’d look at them and be reminded that they helped me survive by giving me something to look forward to and love. It’s so sad that she’s gone. She didn’t even make it to a year old. Her brother is also devastated and has been by her side or lookin at her from a distance in confusion or trying to wake her up. The terrible thing Is, this was one of the only days she really went exploring outside of the garden, she always preferred being inside. I think people should be acknowledged and reminded that there are animals and children who walk alongside rural roads without a pavement or anything and that drivers should be more wary when traveling at fast speeds. Innocent creatures are being Killed or left for dead on the side of the road by drivers, or if they’re a good person, they will take the animal to the vet but unfortunately not many people do this. I think the person who ran over Dee-Dee assumed she was fine n drove off anyways even though she had been hit by an object at least ten times bigger than her. If you could help us spread awareness by signing this petition, we could possibly make a change and protect our animals from having their lives be cut short. Thank you.
