This Municipal Election Could Help Bring a High School to East Gwillimbury

Dear Petition Supporters,

Thank you for signing my petition, East Gwillimbury Needs Its Own Community High School NOW!.

With the municipal election approaching, I believe we have an opportunity to move this issue forward.

I am endorsing Brian Johns for Mayor because he has made advocating for a high school in EG one of his top priorities. When I first raised the concern that East Gwillimbury doesn't have its own high school, Brian was the only councillor who reached out to me. His willingness to listen and take action is why I believe he can make a difference.

Our neighbour, Bradford, has continued advocating for school infrastructure and recently received provincial funding for a high school and high school expansion. We need that same determination and advocacy here in EG.

Brian has asked me to share his plan with all of you. Please take a moment to read his message below.

A Message from Brian Johns, Candidate for Mayor

Hi neighbour,

Every school morning, our kids leave their hometown to attend high school. East Gwillimbury is home to nearly 45,000 people, yet we remain the only municipality in York Region without a public high school.

I'm running for Mayor because I believe that has to change.

The case for a high school is clear:

The land is identified: The York Region District School Board owns property in EG set aside for a high school.
The growth is here: The Board's 2024 study shows our town has reached the enrolment levels for a new secondary school.
The funding mechanism exists: Education development charges are collected on new homes built here.
As Mayor, I will push for a dedicated Council committee, a formal Council resolution, and discussions with the school board about combining school and community facilities, including theatre and sports facilities. I'll also continue advocating for a Catholic high school as our community grows.

The province and school board make the final decisions, but our community deserves a Mayor who will keep pushing and make sure this issue doesn't get ignored.

Make your vote count! If we want a high school for our children, we need to support leaders who are committed to advocating for it.

I believe Brian Johns can help make a high school in EG a reality. Please vote, encourage your neighbours to vote, and help secure a better future for our children!

Please don't assume someone else will vote for the future of our children. Your vote matters.

You can vote online from the comfort of your home, or vote in person at an advance poll or on Election Day.

Thank you for supporting this petition.
