Reinstate Chad Miller
The Issue
Chad Miller has been a beloved coach for the Saint Clair Football program for 7 years. Prior to that, Coach Miller spent years working as a volunteer coach for Saint Clair’s Junior Football program. He’s been the varsity offensive coordinator for the last 5 years.
Before Coach Miller’s tenure, the regular season point record for SCHS was 279 points. Since his arrival, the offense broke that record 3 of the 5 seasons. In 2013, the Saints offense scored 600 points including the playoffs. This point total is now the record for all schools in the entire blue water area.
Chad has also been a selfless and tireless coach, supporter, mentor, and friend of hundreds of SC football players, working hard to support these boys along their journey to becoming men. He takes the role of being a positive influence on young men very seriously. An overwhelming majority of his players and their families truly respect and appreciate what he’s done for the community.
He’s always proven himself to be a good, honest, and trustworthy man. This is a man that wakes up at 5:30 am each day to help oversee morning weightlifting. This is a man who spends well over 40 hours a week coaching and studying film during the season, and hours more each week watching film the entire offseason. Football, and mentoring young men, are his passions in life.
Recently, Chad was fired from his position as varsity offensive coordinator by SCHS administrators. The primary reasons cited for his release included poor relationships with players and poor offensive performance of the team.
As citizens of this community, we should be deeply troubled by how this was handled.
Typically, in situations where so much of what someone does in positive and good, a corrective action plan is put in place to resolve any areas that might need to be change or improved.
In this situation, there was apparently no warning and clearly no effort was made to work constructively to help retain a person who has given so much, and helped so many.
Coach Miller, like most of us, is far from perfect. There are certainly things he can do better or different. How can we expect anybody to improve if they’re not given the opportunity to do so?
I think we can all agree how foolishly this was handled.
Many of you respected Coach Miller because of what he did for your sons and for our community. I’m asking; please, please sign this petition demanding that Coach Miller be reinstated immediately.
Given how he was treated, Chad Miller may never consider returning to help our young men and our community. But it would be a terrible shame if we didn’t try to make that happen.
Thank you for your time and hopefully your support.
