Petition updateNO DRILLING UNDER THE OHIO RIVER!DON'T FRACK THE OHIO: Just the beginning? Or the beginning of the end?

This article should alarm all of us. This plan endangers not only West Virginians, but also all the other states downriver from us who draw water from the Ohio, and further down, from the Mississippi. There is a fault in the area they propose to frack, and the injection wells in the region which they will use will also pose a risk of increased seismic activity. Our officials also tell us that when the Ohio is done, they will look into other river tracts and wildlife management areas. If we don't stop them here, it opens to door to more drilling. "... drinking water is not the only concern. In their letter, the groups said that there is a fault line located near West Virginia’s proposed drilling site, and that drilling would increase the risk of earthquakes in the region. Though drilling itself is not linked to quakes, scientists have found evidence “directly linking” earthquakes to wastewater injection, a process widely used during fracking to dispose of large amounts of wastewater underground. “Where one state decides to drill should never put residents of their own state or another state in harm’s way,” the letters reads. “The exploitation of limited natural gas resources under the river could degrade our water quality, reduce the recreational and aesthetic value of the river, and cause health problems for millions of people.” After the Ohio River bidding is done, West Virginia commerce officials reportedly said the state would look to other river tracts and a wildlife management area for further drilling." We have passed 2500 signatures, and our next goal is 5000! THANK YOU for all your support to date, and PLEASE, keep sharing this petition with everyone you know! http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/09/29/3573449/west-virginia-to-frack-ohio-river/
