Help stop the destruction of Grove Farm’s woodland and wildlife
Dear supporters,
Because of you, Grove Farm kept its Metropolitan Open Land status. A huge achievement that shows how strongly our community cares about this precious green space. But now we are facing a new and urgent threat and we’re asking you 👉 please sign our new petition calling on Ealing Council to protect Grove Farm’s woodland and wildlife:
Developers are proposing a scheme that would destroy part of Grove Farm’s designated Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC). Their own calculations show a net biodiversity decrease of 30.77% for habitat, driven by woodland loss. This is the opposite of what our borough should be doing in a climate and ecological emergency.
Under the current plans:
- 0.27 hectares of woodland within the SINC boundary would be lost to make way for the development.
- 158 trees would be felled during site clearance.
- One badger sett would be closed and another removed, even though badgers are legally protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992.
- Bats would be harmed by increased light pollution, loss of feeding habitat and the disruption of a vital commuting corridor that connects them to other areas.
These are not abstract losses, they mean fewer bats, fewer wildflowers and insects, and a weaker, more fragmented ecosystem on a site that is supposed to be protected for nature and for future generations.
We are now awaiting an upcoming Ealing Council planning committee meeting where this application could be decided. What we do together now will shape what happens next.
That’s why we have launched a new petition focused on this planning application and its impact on Grove Farm’s wildlife and woodland. We need to show Ealing Council that residents will not accept a development that causes a massive net loss of biodiversity and destroys irreplaceable woodland in a SINC.
