Ealing Times reports again on Gurnell and our letter to Sadiq

In Ealing the average rent for a 1 bed flat is £1400 per month, renting a flat for 80% of this market rate (£1120 pcm) does not make it genuinely affordable. With a teacher in London starting on £1800 per month after tax, this would be over half of their wages on rent - before you consider bills, travel, food. No wonder Ealing schools are struggling to recruit. Lets also not forget all the low paid workers earning less than the average of £1600 (after tax). We need more genuinely affordable housing which is why we are campaigning for at least 50% social housing on the Gurnell site.
