The last update is from quite some time ago. We still haven't reburied our Ancestors, whose remains are currently in a depot on the island. That's why the petition will stay open.

However, there are some encouraging improvements to share. The Statia Cultural Heritage and Implementation Committee (SCHIC) is now working with the St. Eustatius community to prepare for the reburial, and monies are available for the design and construction of a memorial. 

And more excellent news. We are glad to report that our UNESCO label application has been approved. Since October 9, the UNESCO Routes of Enslaved Peoples program has included both the Golden Rock Afrikan Burial Ground and the Godet Afrikan Burial Ground.
