We are living in a climate emergency

The country is ravaged by bushfires - homes are burning, animals are losing their habitats, Syndey is covered under a thick blanket of smoke. Wingecarribee is also caught in the brunt of this devastation. Yet, our council refuses to acknowledge the desperate need to declare a climate emergency.

Recently, I was horrified to find that the motion to declare climate emergency has been rejected thrice by our Council.

Please share the petition so our voice cannot be ignored anymore.

The bushfires and the drought are not normal. It is laughable that anyone can still deny the obvious effects of climate change we are experiencing. We almost ran out of domestic water and it took 5 days to get a delivery. Both dams on our property have dried up. The wind is terrible and my entire house is covered with a thin film of dust. We are spending all of our time worrying about basic necessities such as availability of water. Sadly, some people are going through much worse.

Drought and bushfires cannot become the new normal. We need to be better prepared and more responsive to these extreme weather events. The first step to that is a declaration of climate emergency.

Please share the petition with your loved ones so we can talk about solutions and next steps to bring our community out of this misery.
