Dear Supporters, Dublin City Council’s public consultation on the future of George’s Dock has now concluded, and the results have been shared with Councillors.

With over 2,000 responses, the findings show:

-70% of respondents proposed recreational use for the site

-of those, 90% supported a public swimming pool or lido 

These results demonstrate both significant public interest in the site and strong support for a civic, water-based amenity. Respondents also emphasised consistent public values including affordability, accessibility, safety, year-round usability, clear governance and financial sustainability. 

Next steps outlined by Councillors include:   Stakeholder engagement and workshops. Completion of conservation works in April, with water returning to the Dock,  Short-term activations to reanimate the space,  Development of longer-term plans and financial models.

We welcome progress on conservation and short-term activation. At the same time, we believe the long-term civic vision for George’s Dock must remain a priority, and that future use of the site should serve the whole city and remain firmly rooted in public benefit.

We continue to advocate for a publicly accessible lido, managed as a public amenity through a not-for-profit model that supports transparency, affordability, reinvestment in services and equitable public access, values that have guided our campaign from the outset.
