Making Great Progress Towards Building the Library and Our Community

I want to take a few minutes today to thank everyone who has signed our petition, and reflect for a minute on the nature of our collective accomplishments so far. By signing you showed your commitment to making this city we love even greater than it already is. But more importantly, by encouraging friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers, you are engaged in community building. Bringing important information to the attention of others for the common good is an important duty of citizenship, as it encourages community engagement and cooperative behavior. What motivates this campaign is the desire to improve a small corner of our community, and do it in a grassroots, bottom-up way for the benefit of all. Are these hoplessly naive sentiments? I don't think so, and our accomplishments to date are useful evidence that people power works, especially when it is directed towards making life better for the whole community. Thanks for all you do. We still have a ways to go!
