Save Portobello Harbour

Portobello Harbour has a rich history as a friendly area where people from all across Dublin use regularly to enjoy as a public plaza for a variety of activities. Plans to demolish the existing Portobello College to replace it with a hotel threaten the neighborhoods already very limited public space. The scale of the proposed building and it’s over-barring impact on its neighbors will over develop the sight & create traffic congestion in the area and use the public plaza as its own courtyard as it plans to take over the plaza with outdoor tables & chairs, lessening the already limited area to the public. Portobello plaza has been an instrumental part of Irish skateboarding and has consistently been utilized by young people for the last decade, in harmony with local residents who have no immediate facilities for children. The development of a 178bed hotel on the site will undoubtably restrict locals and those who are not using the hotels services from using this public space for markets, skateboarding, biking, ball games & all other activities that occur here on a regular basis, Aswel as those using the canal to relax on summer evenings after a days work.
