Dave McGinn started this petition to Dublin Bus

Help to show demand for a more regular 65 bus service to West Wicklow by signing and sharing this petition!

“The infrequent and unreliable 65 bus service is major frustration for commuters, students, elderly people, and young families. For working parents with young children it might mean that the kids are asleep before you get home, or if they’re not then you’re probably too exhausted to enjoy your time with them. This is a quality of life issue – commuting from West Wicklow to Dublin is already a pain without it being compounded by poor service.” - Dave McGinn, Local Election candidate for West Wicklow

The 65 bus service is not regular or reliable enough, and West Wicklow residents suffer as a result.

Off peak times the bus operates at 2-hour intervals, and then at peak time in the evenings - when people are returning from work, school and college - there are only two buses back to West Wicklow, leaving Dublin at 17:30 and 18:30.

The first bus fills up quickly, and so it has become a regular occurrence - an expectation really - for many commuters that they will have to wait at least an hour for the bus every evening.

A more regular bus is already justified, but as the population of Blessington and West Wicklow continues to grow with young families and commuters, the need for better public transport services will become more urgent.

There are testimonies below from local residents who have been highlighting the pernicious effect that this poor service has had on their quality of life.

Please sign this petition and share it with friends and family who rely on the 65 bus. By collecting a lot of signatures, we can demonstrate that there is significant demand for a more regular service - and Dublin Bus will have to respond to this.

There are proposed changes in the Bus Connects plan, but who knows if or when this will actually be implemented? West Wicklow needs a regular bus service now!

Many thanks,

Dave McGinn, Local Election candidate for West Wicklow

"Doing any after work activities is practically impossible due to lack of frequent service. Taking half days from work is also not really possible as by the time you got a bus, you wouldn't get home until around 3pm. Not really a half day. Same with taking a half day in the morning. You'd need to be getting a bus at 10am to get in to work in the afternoon."

"I moved to Blessington 8 years ago and love it but the past 2 years I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and have a lot of appointments in Tallaght hospital and have to try to get my appointments around the bus times and it's hard to do that, and even at that when I'm coming home I have to walk to the Square and walk around for 2 hours to wait for the next one home."

"I now drive halfway to my destination to make sure I'm not left stranded for a couple of hours. Students between the ages of 11 and 18 have been left at the bus stop outside Our Lady’s School because there’s not enough room. The bus is causing havoc in the lives of young people."

"Students, along with college students, workers, and people wanting or needing to get to and from town have to wait anything between 1 hour and 3 hours to get on the bus, and there is always a need to have a back up plan. Public transport is meant to make life easier and to decrease the number of cars on the road; unfortunately this is not the case if you’re commuting from Blessington. More and more people are driving because they can’t rely on the 65."
