⚓ From 1 Signature to 1,633: One Year of DTLW—Look How Far We’ve Come!

One year ago today, September 9, 2025, the Dredge the Little Wicomico River Jetty, VA! petition was launched as a nonpartisan, grassroots effort to demonstrate community and stakeholder support for restoring safe navigation and Chesapeake Bay access through the Little Wicomico River in Northumberland County, Virginia.
Today, 1,633 people have signed.
And look how far the project has come in one year: Virginia approved $2.6 million for emergency dredging, the state permit was approved, federal review is underway, and approximately 300 feet of South Jetty repair has been added to the proposed project.
That progress has taken the work of Northumberland County, the Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC), government agencies, elected officials, businesses, watermen, emergency responders, community organizations—and all of you who signed, shared, attended meetings, wrote letters, submitted comments, provided information, and kept spreading the word. Thank you!
A special thank you to everyone who submitted public comments directly to VMRC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Those comments become part of the official state and federal records, putting your reasons for supporting the project directly before the agencies reviewing it. The petition shows the numbers; your public comments put those voices into the government record. That documented support is important during permitting and as we continue seeking funding and government support for dredging and long-term repair of the Little Wicomico River Jetty.
📣 One final anniversary-day reminder: Today is the last day to comment on the Corps' revised proposal. If you haven't commented and would like to, go to the Corps' Regulatory Request System https://rrs.usace.army.mil/rrs/public-notices?district=NAO, enter NAO-2025-02108-TREC in Filter Notices, and click the comment bubble in the Actions column.
Need an idea for your comment? “Thank you to the Army Corps for its continued review of the Little Wicomico River project. I strongly support the proposed project and respectfully encourage completion of the review as expeditiously as practicable so this important work can move forward.”
From one signature to 1,633—thank you for an extraordinary first year and all that we have accomplished together!
