⚓ 🚨 Comment by September 9: South Jetty Repair Added to Little Wicomico Project
Happy Labor Day weekend! We hope everyone is enjoying a safe and relaxing weekend on and around the water.
We have an important update on the Little Wicomico River project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened a supplemental public comment period through September 9, 2026, following revisions to the project plans.
The proposed maintenance dredging and beneficial reuse of the dredged sand remain part of the project. The significant new addition is approximately 300 feet of repair to the existing South Jetty.
Under the revised plans, the low section of the South Jetty would be raised from approximately +2.5 feet to +4 feet mean low water.
For those who have followed this effort from the beginning, addressing the deteriorating jetty infrastructure along with restoring the channel has always been important to the long-term future of the Little Wicomico. We are very encouraged to see South Jetty repair included in the proposed project.

If you submitted comments during the Corps' original public comment period, your comments remain part of the official record and do not need to be resubmitted.
If you have not commented, this is an opportunity to tell the Corps why the proposed project—and safe, reliable navigation through the Little Wicomico—matters to you.
Comments submitted directly to the Corps become part of the official federal review record and demonstrate public support for the project.
