We have encouraging news.

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) is tentatively scheduled to consider the Little Wicomico River Jetty Emergency Dredging Project (VMRC Application No. 20252813) at its June 23, 2026 meeting.

Earlier this year, VMRC approved $2.6 million in emergency dredging funding for the project. The permit is still required before the project can advance toward contracting the dredging work.

If you've signed the petition, submitted comments, shared posts, attended meetings, worn yellow, talked to neighbors, wrote an article, a letter to an elected official, an email to a government official, or simply followed this effort and cheered it on, this is your opportunity to be part of the moment.

Several government officials have asked whether supporters will be present at the meeting and, if so, approximately how many. Let's show VMRC, elected officials, and our community that support for safe Chesapeake Bay access through the Little Wicomico Jetties remains strong.

Come and join fellow supporters.  Bring a friend. Consider wearing yellow. Take a photo. Help demonstrate the broad community support behind emergency dredging of the Little Wicomico River Jetty.

Emergency dredging is only the first step. Work remains ahead to assess the condition of the jetty structure and advance long-term rehabilitation planning. A strong showing on June 23 will help demonstrate continued support for the Little Wicomico and ensuring Chesapeake Bay access.

If we receive approval on June 23, plan on meeting up at Los Portales in Burgess at 5:30 pm that day to gather informally together to celebrate how far we've come and discuss the work still ahead.  Food and beverages will be available for individual purchase.
