Dredge the Little Wicomico Jetty-Financial Plan for Jetty Dredging and Repair: The federally authorized navigation channel at the Little Wicomico River Jetty has become severely shoaled and, in several areas, nearly impassable. This channel, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the 1930s and last dredged by USACE in 2014, is now a safety hazard and a major barrier to water access, local commerce, and first-responder operations. Although the Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) is preparing a Virginia Waterway Maintenance Fund (VWMF) grant request for FY26, this state process does not replace the need for federal support for this federally authorized channel. The project requires a coordinated funding pathway to ensure dredging and jetty repair can proceed without delay in 2026. The community is seeking assistance because federal advocacy and placement in the USACE Work Plan, along with Congressional Community Project Funding (CPF), are critical to securing the resources needed to restore this federal channel. Without federal action, the project risks significant delay—even if the state grant is submitted.

Requesting Congressman Wittman formally submit the Little Wicomico River Jetty dredging and jetty-repair project for inclusion in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FY2026 Work Plan, recognizing it as a federally authorized navigation channel facing urgent shoaling and safety concerns. Submit the project for FY2026 Congressional Community Project Funding (CPF), even if Virginia’s VWMF application is filed, so that both federal and state pathways are pursued in parallel. The CPF request would ensure the project remains competitive for federal funding. Parallel federal submission does not duplicate the state request; instead, it strengthens the overall financial plan and ensures readiness if state funds are delayed or insufficient. Our community is seeking Congressman Wittman’s active leadership to ensure this federal navigation project receives the coordinated federal support needed to proceed on schedule.
Pursuing both pathways is strategic, not duplicative — and it’s how time-sensitive federal projects get funded.
