Refuse permission to the Rajasthan Forest Dept. to have Ranthambhore's iconic tigress 'Machali' sent to the taxidermist to be stuffed and displayed to the public upon her death.
The Issue
'Machali' - Ranthambhore's iconic tigress
I was appalled and dismayed to read an article on 'tigernet', the official data base of India's National Tiger Conservation Authority, that a proposal by Rajasthan's Forest Department has been submitted to the Authority for permission for this elderly and well known tigress, once deceased, to be stuffed and then displayed as a trophy for visitors to see. This wonderful old tigress is now being constantly tracked so that on her demise her body can be quickly retrieved before skin and flesh are destroyed. Machali is now seventeen years old and during her lifetime she has successfully given birth to four litters of cubs and her dynasty can be seen throughout both Ranthambhore and Sariska tiger reserves. In my opinion, this most famous tigress should receive the respect she deserves. I feel that on her demise her body should be cremated and her ashes scattered in Ranthambhore where she has reigned supreme for so many years and a bronze statue or wall plaque displayed in her memory. If you feel as I do, please sign the petition to the National Tiger Authority in an effort to quash this proposal.
