Thank you to all who signed this petition- it was ultimately unsuccessful. The AWM steadfastly refuses to release those records. So, I'll up the ante....
The cover-up about the 2nd D&E Platoon is just the tip of an iceberg of corrupt behaviour by the Australian Defence Force. I'm talking about 'fraggings' that occurred in Vietnam that were disguised as men 'killed in action'; about the deaths by 'friendly fire' which were also recorded as combat-related; and most concerning- the absolute farcical awarding of 'gallantry' medals.
In my new book- 'CRUCIBLE: The Australians in Action in Vietnam' , I go into detail about many of these incidents and the subsequent army 'enquiries' which mostly whitewashed the truth. so the Army could save face.
'Crucible' it mentions 370 matters, names 900 veterans, and contains 90 photographs- a resource for anyone wanting to really know what happened in Vietnam and not the 'official' histories recorded by historians and armchair generals.
Take the Military Medal awarded to Sgt Bob Buick after the battle of Long Tan for example. Here was a man who became the de facto platoon commander, and eventually ran from the battle leaving wounded men behind (including two who were wounded alongside of him as he ran)- yet an officer who was not present and witnessed no bravery whatsoever, recorded him to receive that medal. (SEE ATTACHED)
It's just one example. Next, you should read about Lt Peter Cosgrove's Military Cross- and shake your head.
If you want a new perspective on the war (and I'm one of those who was wounded in it) 'CRUCIBLE' can be purchased for $30 by clicking on the link:
