I am heartened today to learn that Senator Jacqui Lambie has tabled documents in federal parliament regarding the Evan Donaldson matter. (He too, has been the victim of army corruption- this time concerning the elite SAS Regiment.) In tabling documents and naming names under parliamentary priveklege, Senator Lambie called for a special Senate enquiry into army corruption- and one can only hope that such an enquiry will embrace all other veterans and serving members who have been the victims of Defence corruption. And especially relating to the 2nd D&E Platoon matter where the 39 men involved have been left in a no-mans-land for some 45 years while senior army officers protected their backsides. By the same token, I must say how disappointing it has been to see Senator Arthur Sinodinis shy away from a fight. After assuring me on national television earlier this year (on Q&A) that he would be pursuing the Australian War Memorial over its refusal to release the 1002 pages concerning the deletion of the 2nd D&E Platoon from the records of the Vietnam War, he simply didn't have the gumption to tackle the 'establishment'. Some men just lack ticker. It appears that Senator Lambie does have some. She took the Donaldson matter ion with just 5,500 signatures on Phoebe Donaldson's petition, so one might assume that a petition with 15,000 signatures will be treated the same. I guess we'll see in the New Year. In the meantime, may I wish all fellow petitioners all the very best for Christmas and the New Year- when the battle shall continue. PS I attach the war record of Corporal James Riddle- the de facto platoon commander of the 2nd D&E Platoon- a man who served this country in Vietnam for almost 1000 days then, like the rest of us, found himself in the dustbin of history.
