I think people need to put a face to names: Here is a picture of four men who served in the 2nd D&E Platoon- Corporal Jim Riddle is on the left carrying the M60 machine gun.
Despite serving almost 1000 days in Vietnam, Jim Riddle went back to England and was effectively locked out. In 2005, we began a campaign to bring him home to Australia.
Eventually successful, he was bashed by a fellow veteran for speaking about the 2nd D&E Platoon, and went back to England in a vegetative state.
I received death threats when I first took this matter to the media, and in 1999 was stabbed twice in the back in broad daylight in a main street in Brisbane. In 2011, I was bashed on the Princes Highway outside my home by a man who leapt from a car and said it was from 'Fergus' (one of the cowards behind the vilification).
Others have gone underground, too scared to speak lest they too become the victim of violence. Another has been driven insane.
All this- so that a few senior officers can remain protected for what they've done.
And the Australian War Memorial - run by the military and answerable to no one - has been a party to these corruptions of historical fact.
