Just to keep the facts accurate: - the 2nd D&E Platoon was created without Cabinet approval - it worked with a Cavalry unit, and the combined force placed in front of an enemy force estimated to be in the hundreds - after the successful ambush, the dead bodies were not treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention of 1949, and at the height of the Moratoriums, this was a political nightmare - the Defence Force immediately disbanded the platoon and erased all trace of it (until 2008) - the national historian, Ashley Ekins, formed the opinion that the platoon didn't exist and refused to be persuaded otherwise (because historians know better than the soldiers involved) - this petition is to Dr Brendan Nelson, Director of the Australian War Memorial who is a good man....unfortunately, he is also a puppet of the military and the 'establishment' - the Dept of Veteran Affairs won't accept that the platoon existed unless Defence provides documentation- but Defence has destroyed all the proof (classic Catch-22)
