Ban Sea Turtle Eggs in the Market!

The enforcement regarding sea turtle protection is weak. Only the leatherback sea turtle’s eggs are not allowed for consumption & demand due to their critically endangered status in the IUCN red list.

However, of all the seven sea turtle species in the world, four can be found here in Malaysia yet three of them: Olive Ridley, Hawksbill & Green sea turtles (all endangered species) are not granted the same protection of their eggs that of Leatherback’s.

It is estimated that of 6,000 to 10,000 sea turtle babies, only 1 will succesfully make it to adulthood. We must enforce better protection & heavier punishments on these widlife crimes. There is no allocation regarding this problem in states of Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor & Labuan.

All species of sea turtles must be catered to better welfare. They are important to the marine ecosystem. They control the sponge distribution & carry nutrients. Ban the demand & consumption of their eggs. Why must we consume things we do not need?
