Hello,
Thank you so much for signing the petition to keep the Southland bus hub open!
This morning, representatives from Transportation Riders United (TRU) and PEAC (an organization that provides travel training for people with disabilities) went to Southland Center and requested a meeting with mall management to discuss our concerns about the bus stop closure. Unfortunately, management refused to schedule a meeting with us.
Our next step is to attend the meeting of Taylor City Council this Wednesday evening, Nov. 5, 6:30 pm, at 23555 Goddard Rd, and urge City Council to negotiate with the mall to find a solution. If you can, please join us and give public comment.
If you can't come to City Council, can you call the mall management at (734) 374-2800, extension 3?
You can say something like: "Hi, I'm a Downriver resident [and mall customer, if you are] and I'm concerned about the decision to remove the bus stop at the mall. This will make it harder for people to get to the mall for work or shopping, with negative consequences for the whole community. Please address any concerns about the stop without kicking bus riders to the curb."
Finally, if you have a personal story to share about why this is so important, can you email me at Petra@DetroitTransit.org?
Thanks so much!
