Haldimand County mayor Ken Hewitt posted a statement Friday afternoon on the county’s website, he outlined the steps being taken to resolve the current situation and shared his views on the matter.

‘“I fully can appreciate their frustration and anger, but I do not condone the methods by which they are exercising that frustration and anger,” Hewitt said. “It is deplorable that our governments have treated our indigenous friends in this manner but wronging a wrong is not the solution and hurting your neighbours is not the path to success.”’ - Brantford Expositor.

So what is the path to success? The indigenous peoples of Canada have been fighting for our land back since it was stolen from us, that was around 500 years ago. We have obviously tried every way to reason with the settlers and nothing has come of it. We are not violent people! Our first thought isn’t to do harmful actions, we do it because we feel threatened, and have no other choice. It’s law enforcement and the government that has been using violence towards us, and now they’re saying we’re unreasonable for being vicious for standing up for what we believe in! They ignore us when we’re nice, so they leave us with no other choice!
