The land defenders returned to Caledonia, still standing up for their stolen land. The 9 arrested protesters were realeased, said Const. Rod LeClair of the OPP, but he has not released information concerning if charges were laid. '“The situation escalated as demonstrators at the site failed to comply with the injunction and reacted by throwing large rocks at police, which struck several officers. For their personal safety, OPP members were required to use appropriate, non-lethal force in response,” said LeClair, adding that a single rubber bullet was fired." This quote in itself is actually a great victory for us as Indigenous peoples. This shows that the OPP has heard our cries for help! According to the article attached, when the land defenders threw rocks, police only fired one rubber bullet. This isn't considered excessive force / use of weapons, which is what the Aboriginal peoples of Canada are used to experiencing when it comes to law enforcement. So I think this part of the situation did not go terribly, and is definitely an improvement! Now, the opposite happened with what Ontario's Premier Doug Ford said about the current situation. '“I’m just so disappointed,” said Ford, who said his government has a “phenomenal relationship” with the province’s Indigenous chiefs and referred to protesters as “a couple bad apples who want to create problems.”' When Doug Ford cut millions for the Indigenous Culture Fund, that's when a lot of Native people lost respect for him. Secondly, the horrid update plan to the Aboriginal Curriculum was just a huge mess. Ford also stated '“And what’s really so disturbing is people put their whole life savings to buy a home, and then someone comes in and just says ‘I’m taking over.’ That’s just wrong. There’s one country. One law. Respect each other.”' YOU HEARD IT HERE FOLKS! FORD THINKS IT'S WRONG TO TAKE OVER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY AND HOME! It's not like Indigenous people haven't been fighting for our own land back since it was first stolen from us! I just find it ironic :) sorry this update is a bit long, and I hope all of you have the time to read it, at the moment we have 28 signatures! thank you all for helping with this cause.
