UPDATE: Orono City Council Meeting this Monday, 3/14/2022

Good morning! Yesterday, the Orono City Council published their agenda for the upcoming March 14, 2022 meeting. Two items specifically mention Summit Beach Park:

Under “Consent Agenda” - Item #7 - Approval of Hennepin County 2022 Special Event Permit for Long Lake Rowing Crew

Within agenda item #7, the City of Orono provided a Staff Recommendation to “… [approve] subject to the provisions stated in Orono’s previous year’s proposals: 1) no organized practice on Sundays, and 2) the activity shall not impede the use of the Summit Park Beach facilities and access by the public."

(This is a permit that is reviewed for renewal/approval each year by the City of Orono, the City of Long Lake, and the Hennepin County Water Patrol in order for organized groups to practice for the season on Long Lake)

Under “Community Development Report” - Item #16 - PKA Architecture o/b/o Long Lake Rowing Crew - Fee Waiver / Reimbursement of Costs

Within agenda item #16, the Long Lake Rowing Crew, which previously sought a “…public-private partnership to construct the Long Lake Community Rowing Center at Summit Beach Park…” has now “…chosen to withdraw their application at this time. They have requested a refund of application fees as well as reimbursement of some of their incurred costs… Additionally, they would like an opportunity to address the Council during the meeting.”

(The staff recommendation states, “Staff does not support a refund of the application fees or for costs incurred by the applicant”)
