Update: Orono Park Commission Meeting this Monday at 6PM
The Orono Park Commission is scheduled to meet this Monday, February 7, 2022 at 6PM CT…. The Agenda was posted yesterday on the City of Orono website. On the agenda includes a Park Commission Assignment and Goals Update (Items 2 & 3).
The Orono Park Commission has a master steering committee dedicated to Summit Beach Park. This committee is composed of four committee members: Jan Berg, Brian Roath, Kjersti Duval, and Rick Carter.
Their list of updated “goals” and “timelines/milestones” for Summit Beach Park are as follows:
- Finalize Playground Concept (August 2022)
- Submit grant request to help fund playground equipment for 2023 project (March 2022 application for 2023 project)
- Provide feedback and direction on LLRC Proposal (Fall 2022)
It is important to note that this steering committee is different from the committee that was formed by Council Member Victoria Seals on the 1/24/2022 Orono City Council Meeting. It remains unclear as to how these two committees will work together in relationship to any future development of Summit Beach Park.

Option #1 - Please attend and make your voice heard during the “PUBLIC COMMENT” section of the Orono Park Commission meeting. This is a critical opportunity for the community to provide comments on the future of Summit Beach Park, especially since the Park Commission will be providing feedback and direction to Orono City Council.
